6 Simple Style Hacks That Will Make Your Outfits Way Cooler
If you look at celebs, off-duty models and style bloggers, it may seem like their outfits are not just super cool but also unattainable for average folk. I’m not talking about brands here, just about the way their outfits are styled. They put together pieces that you would never consider and just like that, their looks are next level! Thankfully, you don’t need a stylist to help you do all this. Just follow these tips, take some inspiration from a few of my IG faves, and add your own special touch!
Cuff Your Jeans
You’re going to realize that a lot of these tips involve not wearing things in exactly the way you bought them. Let’s start with this very easy hack. Simply cuffing your jeans can upgrade your look and freshen up your usual aesthetic. Plus, if your shoes are fire, it lets you show them off.
If you’re rocking skinny jeans, keep the cuff about half an inch wide and roll it just two times. Skinny jeans are sleek, so small cuffs keep that vibe going. If you’re wearing boyfriend jeans or another baggier style, you’ll need to roll your hems rather than fold them. Don’t worry about getting it done perfectly; the messier look will work best here.
Knot Your Button-Down Or Do A Half-Tuck
Button-downs can be shapeless especially when they’re on the looser side. Knotting them will let you show off your waist and add a little more interest to your look. Simply leave the last three buttons or so undone, knot the tails, and adjust the shirt to sit exactly where you want it on your midriff. If you’d rather not do a knot, casually tuck in half of your shirt.
Wear Something Unexpected or Wear Something Regular in an Unexpected Way
If you would normally wear heels with an outfit, opt for sneakers instead. If sneakers are your go-to when you put on jeans, try strappy high-heel sandals. You can also have fun with your bags. Rock your crossbody bag in front or try your fanny pack in a crossbody style. If you want to look cool, you have to be willing to step out of the box.
Cinch Your Dress
Have a shift dress or shirtdress that doesn’t seem all that flattering? Throw on a belt to cinch your waist and let the magic happen. If you want bonus points, choose a belt that stands out. Play around with skinny and broader belts to see which you like best.
Rock Layers
I love to see women who can combine multiple layers to perfection and still look they just threw them on. It’s why I love to see winter and fall fashion so much but even if you live in the Caribbean, you can still add layers to your outfit. Kimonos, lightweight button-downs, jackets over cropped tops, belts, thin scarves, and even bold necklaces can all add layers without making you sweat.
Find Balance
Don’t be afraid to play with proportions. If you’re wearing a tiny cropped top, why not pair it with an oversized skirt? If you’re wearing your shortest shorts, look for a voluminous top. Finding balance is also about combining softer pieces with harder ones and pairing loose with tight. Experiment. You may not always get it right, but half of the fun is in trying.
