7 Ways to Feel Comfortable in Shorts

Warmer weather means it’s short pants season even if you’re in the Caribbean where we don’t have drastic temperature changes. While some women would wear them comfortably and confidently everywhere, others feel a little self-conscious. Maybe you feel too naked in short pants or you feel like they aren’t really your style. Whatever the reason you’ve been bypassing this warm weather staple, if you’re ready to try something new, here are some tips.

Choose the Right Shorts for You

If you’re hesitant about wearing shorts, you definitely don’t want to start with a tight, high-cut style or any other barely-there options. Chino shorts give you some room and bermudas offer some length so they are great styles to begin with. If you feel like denim shorts are too casual, twill makes a good alternative.

Wear Them with Caged Heels or Booties

If #legsfordays isn’t your thing, don’t wear your shorts with flip flops, pumps or any other shoes which will lengthen your legs. Cutting yourself off at the ankle isn’t usually recommended but this is one time when you can do it. When less of your leg is exposed, you will feel more comfortable. Caged heels and booties make you feel a lot more covered even without adding extra clothing. (This trick also works with skirts or dresses which may feel a little too short.)

Add Long Sleeves

Strike a balance. If the focus is on your legs and you don’t want to show too much skin overall, wear a top with long or three-quarter sleeves. Sure, many women pair shorts with cropped tops or halter tops but there’s no rule that says you have to. Wear what makes you feel like you.

Add an Outer Layer

Kimonos and cover-ups aren’t just for wearing over swimsuits. They look great with shorts and simple tops. In fact, this is one of the easiest ways to wear short pants without feeling too exposed. If you feel like a goddess in your flowing kimono, you won’t even remember you’re wearing shorts. You can even just throw on a loose shirt and keep the buttons undone.

Rock Them with a Button-Down

A button-down shirt makes everything look classier. You can go for a crisp white shirt for a sharper look or printed chiffon for something a little more fun. If it’s too hot for long-sleeves, a sleeveless button-down will still help to make shorts look a little classier.

Pair Short Shorts with a Loose Top

If you decide to go for a tiny pair, wearing them with a loose top adds some volume. If you play up the rest of your look, the shorts quickly become an afterthought. Shorts are rarely the focus of an outfit anyway. They just provide a cool, comfortable base for warm weather looks.

Get a Matching Set

Co-ord sets are all the rage and they make things super easy. If you really don’t want the trouble of having to coordinate your own look, just search for a matching set you like. Add a cute pair of shoes and some accessories and you’re good to go!

If you’ve been avoiding shorts like the plague because you just can’t see yourself showing too much skin, give these tips a try. Short shorts and strappy tops aren’t the only options out there.

Such great tips and super cute photos. I need all the stars to align to wear shorts as of lately (waxing, tan, heat etc.) But that is all silly.
