Bev’s Bespoke takes you on journey through jewellery
Don’t be surprised if Bev’s Bespoke is soon known for the best handmade costume jewellery around.
That’s the goal of the mother and daughter duo of Beverley Catline and Natasha Laughton.
If the display I saw at their recent launch event is just a taste of things to come, they are already well on their way.
Beverley started making jewellery almost five years ago after struggling to find unique gift for a friend’s birthday. She was already proficient at knitting, crochet, needlework, embroidery and even making greeting cards so jewellery became yet another creative outlet.
Once Natasha saw just how much her mother was able to produce through experimentation, she came up with the idea to launch Bev’s Bespoke. Natasha has taken on the business side of the things while her mum focuses on making gorgeous pieces.
The collections shown at the launch conjured up dreams of far off places and as it turns out, this was the plan.
“The Safari Collection, the Maldives Collection and the East Asia Collection are the first of our many collections where our pieces are inspired by travel and images from those places. We try for the colours and materials chosen to reflect this. It allows our consumers to live vicariously through the Bev’s Bespoke lifestyle,” Beverley says.
So far the pieces are made mainly of seed beads, pearls and Swarovski crystals. Other items will be included in upcoming collections. While some materials are sourced locally, many are carefully chosen when Beverley travels.
Beverley says her inspiration can come from “almost anywhere”.
“I can be working on a design and another one (or several) will pop into my head. It can also come from looking at a design and wanting to do something different with it,” she says.
It is clear that Beverley has a passion for what she does.
“It’s relaxing and allows me to be as creative as I want to be. That’s a win-win! It’s also quite satisfying to see something come together from just an idea in my mind,” she says.
Bev’s Bespoke specialises in custom-made pieces. If you want a bracelet or necklace adapted to suit your particular style, be sure to reach out.
