5 Steps to Finding Your Personal Style

Know those women whose outfits always look magazine page-ready whether they’re going to work or just running to the supermarket?

Some may have stylists who do the hard work for them but in many cases, they’re just regular women who’ve identified their personal style and know how to adapt it for any occasion.

No need to be envious. You too can get this “personal style” thing locked down.

Personal style 1

This will vary widely depending on your job and lifestyle. Is it important for you to come across as competent and deserving of a promotion? Or do need to show off your creative and artistic side? Once you’ve decided, identify the items which will help you to achieve your desired look. One woman may need tailored suits while you need graphic tees.

Even if it’s a fete you’re attending. Do you want to wear a variation of the same  short, tight dress with mesh panels that every other girl is wearing or do you want to stand out?

Personal style 2

This means looking beyond your circle of friends and even your country for inspiration. Check out magazines and websites that aren’t considered mainstream. Look at photos from a different era. Maybe you’ll be inspired by what your mom was wearing in your baby photos.

These can be the ones which get you the most compliments or the ones that make you feel most confident and assured. Snap a selfie each day after you get dressed to help you keep track of which pieces you liked most. Invest in more of those items.

Personal style 4

Know which silhouettes, fabrics and prints suit your apple-shaped, pear-shaped or long and lean body. If you love your legs, maybe dresses and skirts are more your style than pants. Belts may be your signature accessory if you really enjoy highlighting your trim waistline. Accentuate the positive.

White tees, black pants, tank tops, jeans and a little black dress are some essentials which can form the foundation of any look. How you pair them up and accessorise them is totally up to you.

Jewellery, brooches, scarves, even makeup can be used to create a look that’s all yours.

These tips will get you started on your journey but trust your own instincts. What do you naturally gravitate towards? Black? Floral prints? Simple clothing but both accessories? Go for it!

Personal style is all about doing you!
