Barbadian Designers Impress as Sophia Schuppe launches Ghetto Fabulous

Whimsical fascinators from Candifab,  vacation-ready crochet pieces from Satadaze and bold designs from Kasava Designs.

These set the perfect stage for an exciting 80s-inspired collection called Ghetto Fabulous from Jacqueline Benn-Schuppe on Sunday.

The New York-based Barbadian personal shopper and stylist launched some youthful looks under the Sophia Schuppe brand in a high energy runway presentation.

She said it could be her last collection for a while but I certainly hope not. It was equal parts throwback and fashion forward and I would definitely love to see more.

Supporting designers showed up

Candifab by Candi Nicholls was dainty perfection as usual but I especially enjoyed the use of  bold African prints in some of the pieces.

Wanderlust, Natalie Eastmond’s second collection for Satadaze, demonstrates her growth as a designer.  This collection showed off her her talent and I expect her to continue developing her craft.

Alice Martin really grabbed my attention with Kasava Designs. I enjoyed her use of print, volume and unexpected details.

100% Bajan Shopping at Dwellings’ Holiday Pop-up

A lot of people are going to be unwrapping some amazing locally-made Christmas gifts this year. Unless all those swooping up items at the Dwellings Holiday Pop-up decide the goodies are just too pretty to keep!

Dwellings’ Canewood, St Thomas store is already stunning. When about a dozen Barbadian creators tastefully integrate their pieces into the displays, you get something nearing perfection. This was a pop-up done right.  All the items were well-made and well-displayed and it was a joy to see all the beautiful work that is being done in Barbados.
