Happy Birthday to Me!

I love new clothes. If everyone could just wear new clothes everyday, I reckon depression wouldn’t exist anymore.
-Sophie Kinsella, Confessions of a Shopaholic

It was my birthday last Saturday and as has become tradition, dinner and cake were on the agenda. This year I opted for cupcakes and since even my baked goods must be fashionable, I bypassed the traditional flavours and opted for apple pie, pink lemonade, strawberry daiquiri and s’mores from Ultimate Cupcakes by Intimate Catering. I’ve since decided that cupcakes should be a food group.

Dinner took place at the Beach House Bar and Restaurant on the island’s West Coast and that’s where all the photos were taken except the last four which were shot at Limegrove Lifestyle Centre.

Now on to the outfit!

You know how sometimes you’re in a store just browsing and something just calls your name? That’s what happened with this dress. It was on sale (45 per cent off) and it was the only one on the rack. It totally looked like me even on the hanger and when I tried it on, it fit like a dream so I had no choice but to get it. I knew immediately that it would be my “birthday dress”.

The shoes (last seen here) are my favourite and most worn pair of heels since they are actually quite comfortable. And their simplicity was ideal for this dress. The clutch is Bijoux Terner.

And the ear cuff? Well I finally have ear cuffs lol. I’ve always liked their innate edginess so I got two when I was in Scotland and now I’m as happy as can be. I also picked up the rings on that trip.

I passed a series of panels like this just as I was about to leave Limegrove so I snapped a photo of the one I identified with most.

It feels like just the other day that I was excited about the end of September but already, there’s just a week left in October. Off I go to make the most of it!

Stripes and Snakeskin

“Dress shabbily and they remember the dress; dress impeccably and they remember the woman.” ― Coco Chanel

By now you must know that I swear by this combination. In two previous posts here and here I outlined why I think the pencil skirt and tank top are two of the most versatile items InMyWardrobe.

This particular ensemble was the later-in-the-week continuation of the birthday celebration I’d mentioned here. It was essentially a dessert run but the restaurant we initially planned on going to was closed for renovations on arrival. That meant a quick change of location and since the new place was less fancy, it meant my pearl necklace had to come off and like magic, my outfit was sufficiently scaled down.

Although this is my go-to combination I was especially proud of myself this toss because I took a chance on combining prints.

Stripes and snakeskin just seemed to make sense somehow and added a little interest to what I was wearing. These days, if it doesn’t match, I’m more likely to wear it.

If all goes according to plan I’ll be mixing patterns in my clothes soon.

Do you like to mix patterns?

Red and black and white polka dots

Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.~Coco Chanel

I think I’m the happiest girl in the world this month with birthdays and travel plans and West Indies winning. I really hope everyone is enjoying October as much as I am.

This is what I wore to a friend’s birthday luncheon on Sunday. I really didn’t know what to wear and I kinda refused to do anything until West Indies had won the T20 World Cup so time got away from me and I went for the item that needed the least effort.

It doesn’t get much more classic than black, white and red. This is one of my favourite colour combinations and polka dots are just so much fun.

As it was a Sunday afternoon and none of my wedges go with this dress, flats it had to be since I could find no real reason to wear heels. Plus we were right by the beach so sandals made sense anyway.

For my Bajan readers, this bag is Bijoux Terner just like the black one here that’s in danger of me working it to death and the others that will probably appear on here sometime in the future. Yes, I love my Bijoux Terner.

And I love my blue nail polish as well. There’s just something about looking down and seeing a burst of colour. It’s like all is well with the world….or something like that anyway.

I wonder where the rest of this month will take me…

Not too grown up to play dress up!
