Angel wings, a leaf and a bow

“Fashion is not necessarily about labels. It’s not about brands. It’s about something else that comes from within you.”

I was craving KFC and since I live in one of the few places in Barbados that has a Chefette but no KFC, off to town I had to go… on a Saturday… with all those humans…

Anyway, I needed an outfit that was simple but cute. I’m not gonna lie…this is my go-to ensemble and it works day and night. No labels, no brands. Just add heels and a clutch for night and maybe different accessories. That’s right, a fitted skirt and a racer back tank. $25 skirt and $15 top…no need to kill jeans and t-shirts when there’s this combo. You may add a belt if you wish and/or pull the top out instead of tucking it into the skirt.

(My next post will show my nighttime version so look out for it).

This time I chose angel wing earrings, a leaf pendant and this bow ring that just called my name when it saw me. No really, it did… I’m not crazy. It’s kind of a strange combination but I liked the playfulness of it.

From day into night

A woman’s dress should be a like a barbed-wire fence: serving its purpose without obstructing the view.—Sophia Loren

I’ve always been fascinated by the day-to-night concept. Never mind the fact that I usually go home and change after work if I’m going out again. I just like the image of a stylish, always-on-the-go woman changing a few elements of an outfit and being ready for that “after work” experience.

So here I was with a normal work day ahead of me and then a reception in the evening. This is one of my favourite dresses. I got it at 50 per cent off and it fits like a dream plus it came with the belt.

Usually I like a pop of colour but I kept this outfit neutral.

During the day I kept it simple with earrings and the animal print bangle. The bangle came off in the evening and I put on the gold and pearl necklace (which I love so much that I plan to dedicate a whole post to it) and a locally-made spiral ring.

Oh and when I looked at these pics I absolutely loved the way the textures and patterns on my belt, bag handle and bangle looked. Let’s pretend I planned it that way.:)

TGIF but…

What you wear is how you present yourself to the world, especially today, when human contacts are so quick. Fashion is instant language.

Today’s quote is from Miuccia Prada and it’s quite fitting.

This was a dressier than usual Friday outfit for me. I really couldn’t decide what to wear that morning and I stared InMyWardrobe, pulled open drawers and looked wherever my clothes often hide. As time ticked away I knew I HAD to choose something. Something that looked effortless but still pulled together.  I had an interview with a CEO whom I was meeting for the first time but it was Friday so I wanted some colour…TGIF and all that.

The bandage skirt was a lifesaver. It’s super flattering and it doesn’t need ironing. Perfect for any busy young woman. I have a thing for cardigans because they’re relaxed but still professional. Then came the purple top for a touch of fun.  I thought I could add a bit more colour without looking crazy so out came the turquoise belt! Along with that was the turquoise button and bead bracelet. Those were the only bright colours; shoes and bag were black, earrings and necklace set were understated. Perfect balance between professional and interesting… at least I think so…

Not too grown up to play dress up!
