Do you. Take risks. Silence those inner voices.
No, this isn’t some random cheesy motivational post. But it is a different kind of event recap. I knew Curls Nite Out wasn’t going to be just a hair event but I don’t think I quite expected these themes to come through so strongly. I don’t know if it was planned but that was what I got from quite a few presenters, regardless of the topic.
Melinda Belle of Astrape Finance, Renee Crichlow of REAC Fitness and Christian Gibbs stand out in my mind as some of the most inspirational presenters.
Melinda talked about the importance of not letting fear hold you back, forgiving yourself for past mistakes and coming up with a plan to move forward.
Renee spoke about how you need to stick to your goals and not attempt things half-heartedly, about not putting junk in our bodies and minds the same way we (hopefully) don’t put junk in our hair.
Christian shared how people started complimenting her hair when she started rocking it with confidence. You can see a clip of her presentation here.
I decided to highlight these because many of us find it difficult to silence the voices whether we want to try a new hairstyle, start an exercise regimen or make an investment. Doing what you want, when you want and how you want is super hard for many of us but these ladies reminded us how important it is to do what is right for you.
I’ll also be posting a video clip from Renee on Facebook along with one from image consultant Shawna Rowena Morgan whose presentation I really enjoyed. If you need help knowing which hairstyles and colours suit your complexion and face shape, she’s the girl you should check out.
It wasn’t all super serious though. Marcia and Lisa of L&M Touch of Class had lots of advice for the ladies considering Sisterlocks while Khadijah of Blvcallure demonstrated crochet braiding. There was also a make-up demo by Alphaeus Designs.
And last but not least, there was stuff to buy and awesome new curlfriends to meet. What more could a girl want in just three hours?
I had a fabulous night even though I was quite under the weather and I’m already looking forward to the next event!
