It’s often said that it’s all in the details.
And there were lots of details to take in when Jacqueline Benn Schuppe launched her Ling Ling Spring/Summer 2015 collection on Saturday night at Barbados Beach Club.
Picture the demure 1950’s lady with gloved hands and fascinator, crisp white blouses and puffed sleeves. Now add a modern infusion of denim and throw in some youthful attitude and a spirit of adventure. That was Ling Ling.
We’ll get to the photos but the audience had to wait and dear reader, so do you! Alexis Campbell and Katrina Brathwaite were the supporting designers so you’ll enjoy the wait. I’ve been a big fan of Alexis since the Pitch Plank collection and I’ve enjoyed her journey and experimentation with ideas. From menswear to the girlish perfection showcased at Pomp Wknd last year, I loved it all. And Saturday’s swimwear showing was no different. Forget overdone “tropical” colours . . .
If I had to use one word to describe Katrina’s collection, it would be “sexy”. But it was also extremely creative, with statement-making accessories that integrated well with the clothing. The Tri Collection tag line says only confident women need apply but I think that applies to the men too.
Doubt me? Take a peek.
Now on to the Ling Ling collection with its modern spin on vintage. Those pearls ans brooches were the perfect accesories!
This was an excellent debut and I cant wait to see what else Jacqueline has to offer.
