Take a look

You know that thing when you see someone cute and he smiles and your heart kind of goes like warm butter sliding down hot toast? Well that’s what it’s like when I see a store. Only it’s better!

That quote from Rebecca Bloomwood in the Confessions of a Shopaholic movie is easily one of my favourite shopping quotes. Honestly, I identify. And if there’s a “SALE” sign in that store’s window, somebody had better hold me back.

Usually no one does since I often venture into retail territory solo.

The end result? Too much stuff!

Like these black and white prints.

So ever so often someone tells me I have too many *insert item here* or that I should have a sale. I would like to disagree but the fact is my wardrobe IS kinda like a mini store.

Except instead of carrying different pieces for different people, it caters to different aspects of my personality. There’s sexy stuff, there’s edgy stuff, there’s ethnic/rootsy stuff. There’s girly stuff.  My  wardrobe is the product of years of fashion choices. Sure, I add stuff whenever I like a trend or something catches my eye (which is waaay too often) and I take out stuff if it no longer fits me or my personality well.

But what I choose to wear is a mood/ phase thing for me so something that I bought five years ago may no longer be a favourite now. Still, I hang on to pieces like that because chances are I’ll want to turn to them someday. Some things like pumps are classics.

I think I’ve started doing a better job at choosing items that I will keep me interested for a long time but for my random treks off the familiar path, accessories are a relatively cheap and easy way to change up my look.  Belts have become a staple accessory especially for work. Skinny, broad, neutral, bright, textured…. The list goes on.

Anyway, in some ways this blog is “fashionably late”.  With my love for all things fab I should’ve thought of this long ago.  But from now on I’ll be giving you a peek InMyWardrobe. I’ll highlight some of my favourite pieces and share how I use them in this grown-up version of dress up I play on a daily basis.

And if I’m inspired by a shoe, bag, clothing item or accessory that I don’t yet have you can be sure I’ll show you what I would do if I could get it InMyWardrobe.

Of course, comments and suggestions for future posts are welcomed.
